Week 16 Animating dialogue

This week we have a new task, this time the main animation exercise is on the upper body and the movements and facial expressions of the characters. We also need to find a reference and sketch.

The reference I’m looking for this time is a clip from the Cantonese film As Tears Go By. I also adjusted the camera position and the rhythm of some of the action.

  • Original lines:早知道你这么老土 ,吃鲍鱼 ,吃屎啊你

“joh zee doh nay zeh moh loh toh, sikh boh yuh, sikh suh ah nay”

  • Translated version:”If I had known you were so outdated, you should’ve just eaten abalone or even shit.”

This week the feedback from last week has been adjusted, the walking loop has been added, the prop effects have been adjusted and the animation has been made more coherent.

Week 4 Project2

This week I finished painting all the characters.

And because CHEN was worried about the progress of the work, I also finished the male models this week. As our story is not coloured at the beginning, my team can start working on camera adjustments and screen control at the same time, even though I haven’t finished the mapping.

Week 13 body language

During the week, George gave me a few references and suggestions on movement for this blocking, and I tweaked the character’s movement in terms of walking and unwrapping the ice-cream. I also added some frames.

Week 3 Project 2

This week I’m working on the first version of the character design and I’m referencing a lot of 3D artists’ sensibilities in my style. At the same time I have added some of my own interpretations. In my opinion in this story the girl should be a very outgoing and infectious character, while the boy is a bit low.

I shared it with my group at the first opportunity and they loved the design. The proportions of the characters are close to life-size, so it was not easy to create glowing materials. After discussing and testing the design, we decided to abandon our initial intention to create a glowing material. So I finished the colouring of the girl first

Week 12 body language

This week George gave me some feedback on my reference and sketches and he suggested that I adjust the position of the camera in the animation. In the meantime, I have completed a basic blocking on this animation.

Week 11 body language

In the first week of the term George will be teaching us how to produce a realistic but more exaggerated and animated camera performance.

I referenced a clip on the blibli website of a man eating an ice-cream and dropping it on the floor, thinking no one would notice, but it was recorded on camera. As it was overly long, I used part of it as a reference for my actions.

Week 2 Project 2

Since my main job in this collaboration is still in the role, I looked up some relevant material for reference. We had a few meetings and I was able to get a more precise idea of what the characters wanted – a team of young people with a love interest. The first thing I thought of was a cartoonish style.

Week 1 project 2

This week we discussed the story of project2. After some discussion we decided to do a short story about a beautiful encounter. A boy without colour meets a girl and his world turns into colour. We wanted to design the character to look like a crazy elemental city with glowing materials.
